Experiences with Double Vault Composting Toilets in Croix-des-Bouquets
Vakenson Sanon from the French Red Cross gave an overview of the organization’s experiences providing sanitation at resettlement sites in Croix-des-Bouquets. Firstly, the presentation focused on the technical aspects of the double vault composting toilets; how to use the urine diversion seats; how to change the vaults; and how to empty and re-use the composting material. Secondly, he outlined the lengthy “awareness raising” work that’s necessary to encourage people to use the toilets, and to inform them about methods of handling full latrines.
Vakenson commented that to date, the French Red Cross has had no experience emptying these toilets. However, the urine that is diverted is collected in containers outside the toilet, diluted, and then returned to the soil by watering plants and trees. - Kreyòl Ayisyen

Expériences avec les Toilettes de Compostage à Double Cave à Croix des-Bouquets :
Vakenson Sanon de la Croix Rouge Française a donné un aperçu de l’expérience de l’organisation dans la construction des latrines aux sites situés dans la zone de Croix-des-Bouquets. D’abord, la présentation s’est centré sur les aspects techniques des toilettes de compostage à Double Cave; comment utiliser le siège a dérivation urinaire; comment changer les caves; comment vidanger et réutiliser les matériels de compostages. Ensuite, il a souligné la longue durée du processus de « sensibilisation »qui est nécessaire pour encourager les gens à utiliser les toilettes, et les informer sur les méthodes de gestion de latrines pleines.
Vakenson a expliqué que jusqu’à date, la Croix Rouge Française n’a pas fait d’expérience de vidange de toilettes. Cependant, l’urine qui est détournée est collectée dans un récipient en dehors de l’installation, est diluée puis utilisée pour arroser les plantes et les arbres.
