Nou tap kontan pataje mesaj pa w ak ekip la nan memwa kòlèg yo pandan wap sèlman kite yon ti nòt nan kòmantè yo anba a oubyen voye yon imèl nan [email protected].

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the death of our dear colleague, Franck Grégoire, who was tragically killed in Cap-Haïtien in an armed robbery at the end of January.

Grégoire joined SOIL’s composting team in Northern Haiti in 2016 and is remembered by all who knew him as gentle, wise, and hard working. He was unrelenting both in his commitment to SOIL’s mission as well as to his colleagues. Many saw him as a father figure out on the composting site in Mouchinette, providing guidance and support for all that had the honor of working alongside him.

Husband of 36 years to Raymonde Davilma, Grégoire was a father to four and grandfather to one. Grégoire was deeply engaged with his church and was an active member of the community at large. His funeral at his church in Limonade had crowds spilling into the street outside to come and say goodbye. Members of SOIL’s composting team joined the ceremony in their bright green SOIL uniforms, as a sign of solidarity for one another and to honor the work of their beloved colleague.

SOIL’s Northern Haiti Assistant Composting Supervisor Joasil “Tidou” Lucny gave a moving eulogy for Grégoire on behalf of our team and explained that: “He was an exceptional person, because he was a person that was honest, a person that respected everybody. He was a real counselor.”

Our Human Resources Director Wisner Jean-Louis shared in writing that: “Grégoire was one of SOIL’s staff that was always showing us how much he respected people and his work. He was a person with so much wisdom, so much humility, and such a great willingness to collaborate with each member of the team. I don’t believe that we’ll find another person like Grégoire again. He’s a person that we will never forget.”

We are moved by the commitment of our teams to one another and find solace in our bonds to each other in the face of an unexpected tragedy. Please hold SOIL’s team in your hearts during this time.

We would be glad to share messages of remembrance with his colleagues should you like to leave a note in the comments below or send an email to [email protected].
