Get to Know Our B Corporation Partner: World Centric

Despite the ongoing challenges of working in a fragile state, SOIL is making significant strides in providing dignified and affordable sanitation in Haiti, but our work would not be possible without the support of our incredibly generous partners. In 2016, SOIL began partnering with World Centric, an eco-conscious B Corporation that provides compostable packaging to the food service industry. This charitable partnership supports SOIL’s life changing sanitation work in Haiti – and, we’re big fans of their sustainability model, engaged employees and spirit of volunteerism too!! World Centric was founded in 2004 as a nonprofit organization to ...

SOIL x Reel Video: What does water mean to you?

This year on World Water Day, we were excited to collaborate with one of our incredible Give-Back Partners, Reel Paper. SOIL’s CEO and co-founder, Dr. Sasha Kramer, and board members, Johnny Cèlestin and Ingrid Henrys, sat down with members of the Reel team, including co-founder, Derin Oyekan, for an inspiring conversation on World Water Day. As organizations driven by the need for climate-positive and inclusive solutions to sanitation, World Water Day is especially important to us and the work that we do. SOIL began partnering with California-based brand, Reel Paper, early last year as a beneficiary of their socially impactful Give-Back ...

In the Business of Change: Promoting Sustainable Sanitation in Haiti

As we kick off the New Year, we're doubling down on our commitment to expand access to safe and sustainable sanitation in Haiti and we were excited to join See Change's Elisa Birnbaum for an episode of their podcast, In the Business of Change, to talk more about it. In the episode, SOIL's co-founder and Executive Director Sasha Kramer recounts how SOIL blended principles from the fundamentals of ecology and human rights advocacy to build a holistic sanitation service that takes on a symptom of poverty, in this case a lack of access to sanitation, and transforms it into an environmental solution. If you've ever wondered about how SOIL started ...

SOIL Visit to EAA, Ouagadougou

This is one story from a multi-part series on SOIL's adventures in Africa. After a successful morning with the women of Dunkassa, Sasha, Bobo and I, accompanied by our ADESCA colleagues Zachary and Guninen, embarked on a road trip to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The purpose of our trip was to visit the African water and sanitation organization EAA / WSA (Eau et Assainisement pour Africa / Water and Sanitation for Africa), formerly known as CREPA. Sasha had first heard of the work of CREPA in 2005 whilst at an EcoSan conference in Durban, South Africa, and SOIL had long benefitted from their research and from their online publications. ...
