Client Raffle and World Cup Watch Party is a Success!

On June 19th, SOIL shared a free public screening of Haiti's historic World Cup match against Brazil — Haiti's men's national team returning to the world stage for the first time in a generation. The timing of the game was momentous, as it landed on Juneteenth, a day commemorating the long-delayed recognition of freedom for enslaved people in the United States. In both Haiti and the United States, the long struggle for freedom, equal access to basic services, and reparative justice reminds us that dignity must be made real through the systems and conditions that allow every person to live and thrive.
For 20 years, SOIL has worked in partnership with the Haitian government to close Cap-Haïtien’s sanitation gap through building operational expertise, developing effective service-delivery models, and generating population-level sanitation data. What began as a stopgap has become the proof-of-concept on which Haiti's public sanitation future is being built.

To celebration these intersecting holidays of national pride and history, SOIL rang in 20 years with a raffle drawing for 20 clients! The raffle was filled with several exciting prizes - ranging from speakers to solar panels to wheelbarrows and other household goods. A friend who drove past the celebration as it was being set up near Cap-Haïtien’s boulevard remarked that it was the first time in years she had seen the community space used for an event. It was an honor for us to create space for joy at a moment of immense excitement—for both young children and those who remember the last time Haiti’s men’s team dawn the stage at the World Cup in 1974.
Even though Haiti didn’t win the game, there was a global outpouring of support from soccer fans recognizing the significance of Haiti gracing the world sports stage with strength and poise at a time when Haitian families, both at home and abroad, are facing incredible injustice. This remarkable testament of character is something that we at SOIL are grateful to witness daily with our team and the communities we serve.
