SOIL’s Superstar Sales Agent: Maudeline Retains 100% On-Time Payments with Clients
Over the past year, SOIL improved our on-time client payment rate by an impressive ~10%. In a city where daily life can change in an instant, maintaining reliable business operations is no small task. Yet our team continues to show what professionalism looks like in complex urban environments, building a sanitation service that families can count on.
SOIL’s superstar sales agent, Maudeline, manages one of the largest EkoLakay client portfolios in Cap-Haïtien—serving over 410 households. Among her many responsibilities, she ensures that families maintain access to safe sanitation by making sure they stay up to date with their monthly subscription fees, typically around $2–3 USD.
One of Maudeline’s stand-out qualities is her ability to nurture steady, trust-based relationships with families in her portfolio. Thanks to her professional stewardship, households feel supported in keeping up with their service costs and connected to SOIL as a reliable and effective sanitation provider.
We recently sat down with Maudeline at our Tilari office to learn her tips and tricks for success—and to hear firsthand what she enjoys most about being part of the EkoLakay team.
Can you tell us a little about your role as a Sales Agent with SOIL?
My role as a sales agent is to do marketing and sell the services. I present EkoLakay as a life solution for people who don’t have the means to build a toilet at home.
Kreyòl: Wòl mwen kòm ajan vant se fè maketing epi vann sèvis yo. Mwen prezante EkoLakay kòm yon solisyon lavi pou moun ki pa gen mwayen pou konstwi yon twalèt lakay yo.
What strategies do you use to make sure all your clients pay on time?
I always follow up with clients to make sure they pay for the EkoLakay service on time. The first strategy I use is the door-to-door method: I go directly to clients’ homes, collect payment, and remind them of the importance of the service. I also work on building familiarity with my clients so they feel comfortable with me. When necessary, I allow them to pay in two installments, especially if they can’t pay the full 350 gourdes at once.
For clients who have already shown me that they value and appreciate the service, I put more trust in them. In addition, when they pay through MonCash (a mobile wallet that allows financial transactions between users, regardless of their location in Haiti), it makes the process easier and can even give them certain advantages as returning clients.
Kreyòl: Mwen toujou fè swivi ak kliyan yo pou asire yo peye sèvis EkoLakay la alè. Estrateji mwen itilize, premye a se metòd pòt-a-pòt: mwen ale lakay kliyan, fè yo peye epi montre yo enpòtans sèvis la. Mwen chèche vin familye ak kliyan yo tou, pou yo santi yo alèz avè m. Lè sa nesesè, mwen konn pèmèt yo peye an de vèsman, sitou si yo pa ka peye 350 goud la yon sèl kou.
Kliyan ki deja montre m valè ak enpòtans yo bay sèvis la, mwen mete plis konfyans nan yo. Anplis, lè yo itilize MonCash pou peye, sa rann bagay la pi fasil e menm konn ba yo yon avantaj kòm ansyen kliyan.
What do you enjoy most about working with EkoLakay clients in your community?
What I enjoy most about working with EkoLakay clients is raising awareness so they understand the value of the service. When I visit households, I show people how to properly use the toilet, how to wash their hands, and where to dispose of paper so it can be burned. I also do regular service checks at client households to make sure everything is working well. This gives me confidence in myself and the work SOIL does, as it helps me understand the daily realities of community members who don’t yet have access to a toilet.
This job helps protect the environment and reduces the risk of diseases that spread when families don’t have safe sanitation at home. It has helped me recognize what really matters in life. I feel proud when I can help more people access a toilet, because it saves them from daily expenses like hospital visits and treating illnesses such as typhoid, malaria, and other diseases that safe sanitation at home can help prevent. I am truly proud of SOIL and the good work it is doing in the community.
Kreyòl: Sa mwen plis apresye nan travay mwen ak kliyan EkoLakay yo, se sansibilize yo pou yo konprann valè sèvis la. Lè m al vizite yo, mwen montre yo kijan pou yo sèvi ak twalèt la, lave men yo, e kote pou yo mete papye yo pou nou ka boule yo. Mwen toujou fè tchèk pou m asire tout bagay ap mache byen lakay yo.
Mwen vrèman fyè de SOIL pou bon travay li ap fè nan kominote a.
