Successful EkoLakay Sales Event in Katye Moren
SOIL team members and MSPP partners welcome new households to the EkoLakay service during a neighborhood sales event last weekend in Katye Morin.
Energy, collaboration, and community pride were on full display during a two-day EkoLakay outreach and sales event in the commune of Katye Morin (Quartier-Morin), where SOIL’s team worked side-by-side with residents to expand access to safe, dignified sanitation. The event combined community outreach and on-the-spot toilet installations—resulting in dozens of new households joining the EkoLakay service in just one weekend.
The event began on Saturday March 14th with a netwayaj (clean-up) effort in the areas where outreach would take place the following day. SOIL staff cleaned and prepared a central meeting point for Sunday’s sales activities.
Throughout the day, a sound truck moved through the neighborhood announcing the upcoming event and sharing information about EkoLakay—how the service works, why safe sanitation matters, and how families could sign up.
Door-to-Door Outreach and New Sign-Ups
On Sunday March 15th, activities kicked off early with teams moving through the neighborhood to connect directly with households. SOIL’s AJK (community sales agents) worked alongside representatives from Haiti Ministry of Public Health and Population, going door-to-door to explain the benefits of having safe sanitation at home, how the EkoLakay service works and helped families register on the spot.
Our efforts paid off: 85 households signed up for the service in a single day!
At the same time, SOIL’s unité technique (our technical team) was on site installing toilets for new customers immediately after registration. By the end of the event, 41 new EkoLakay toilets had already been installed, allowing families to begin using safe sanitation services right away.
Behind the scenes, SOIL’s IT team ensured that field tablets and phones remained fully synchronized so that registrations, installations, and customer data could be recorded seamlessly into our data systems in real time.
Safe Sanitation Transforms Lives
Community events like this demonstrate how effective outreach can accelerate access to sanitation. By combining local engagement, public health partnerships, and rapid installation capacity, the SOIL team was able to move households from interest to service in a matter of hours.
Each new EkoLakay toilet means more than just a sanitation solution—it represents improved health, greater dignity, and a cleaner environment for families and their neighbors.
The momentum for expanding EkoLakay services in northern Haiti continues to grow.
